I’m a little closer to the demographic that twilight is shooting for than my elderly male sibling. However…I agree with him on everything he said in his New Moon review. I’m not going to do an entirely new review, that would be stupid. I just thought I would tack on a couple of things that weren’t mentioned.
One of the thing that was actually kind of delightful about this movie were the very rare and brief moments where it kind of had a sense of humor about itself. I think most of these moments appeared when the characters in the movie were going to the movies themselves. I believe they attended a crappy action flick called “Face Punch.” And it was sort of like the creators were hinting that they were aware of the absurdity of these blockbuster movies. Or maybe that is just something my brain fabricated during the movie to try to entertain itself.
Another thing that I think should just be thrown out there are the performances by Michael Sheen and Dakota Fanning. Michael Sheen is the most interesting vampire we’ve seen thus far. And it was a shame that his performance had to stand amongst actors who sounded like 8th grade english students reading straight from the book. I can’t really say that Dakota Fanning had a good performance because she was literally in the movie for probably all of 3 minutes. But what we did get was a nice reprieve, if only for a moment.
New Moon did have a tendency to be a bit “prettier” than its predecessor. Though I’m not speaking about Pattinson’s god awful overdone vampire lipstick/pancake combo. They got rid of that weird blue filter thing that they had going that only added to the depressive quality of the last flick.
Still an INCREDIBLE bummer of a film. Not even the broodiest of broody kids could stand up to this movie. I give it 3 pounds of crazy vampire makeup out of 10.
Just a helpful hint (and this is my incredible nerdiness taking over)…
The reason that I’ve been able to deduce that teenage girls are attracted to this series is because of the romance and because Bella is basically a blank slate, shes easilly interchangable for just about anybody.
My suggestion to you twilight enjoyers out there….WATCH BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER. Cooler vampires. Theres romance but its not annoying. Theres even the occassional brood-fest but its interesting. And theres grounds for it…because Buffy is…The Slayer. There are better monsters. Theres humor. Action, drama…etc… Theres even a fun musical episde.
basically…
Buffy :: Twilight : Radiohead :: Coldplay
